Double knitting is a unique method
of simultaneously making two layers
of fabric with no "wrong" side and a
reversible pattern built into it.
Significantly different from the
standard intarsia and Fair Isle
colorwork that is so well known,
double knitting is a labor-intensive
but wholly worthwhile technique to
have in your repertoire. It is
perfect for reversible scarves,
blankets, hats and more.
Intro to Double Knitting
In the intro class, you'll learn a new 2-color cast-on for double knitting, get comfortable with the basic techniques to create two layers at once, then move into colorwork. At the end of the class, you should have a motif swatch and be confident that you can take this technique and incorporate it into your projects.

Double Knitting Level 2
So far, you may have made a double-knit washcloth or a 2-color reversible swatch. Perhaps you've started on a scarf or some other flat object. What if you wanted to do something more complex -- say, a hat? Double knitting in the round is exciting, and there are a couple of ways to do it. The finished garment is extra-warm from the two layers, and reversible to boot. At the end of the first session, you should be comfortable with double knitting in the round, and have a plan for continuing your personalized hat. Some motifs will be provided for your use, or you can bring your favorite 2-color patterns. During the second session, we'll learn to decrease and finish off the hat!
Requirements: 2 contrasting colors of "normal" yarn and 4 double-point needles or 1 16" circular. You should be comfortable with the long-tail cast-on and basic knit and purl, as well as working in the round and basic charting. Previous double-knitting experience required -- you should either have taken my previous class or have done some other double-knitting colorwork on your own or in another class.
$75, you supply your own materials.
